Brand History & Background
Zen Float Co. launched on Kickstarter in 2014 with the Zen Float Tent — a soft-walled, frame-supported home float tank designed to make floating affordable for individuals rather than only commercial buyers. The Tent dramatically lowered the cost of entry to home floating, which had previously meant spending $8,000+ on a Samadhi or similar cabin.
The company later introduced the rigid-walled Zen Float Tank, a fiberglass cabin in the same size class but with significantly better insulation, durability, and resale value. Both products are made in the USA and remain in production today.
Zen Float occupies a niche the larger manufacturers don't compete in: serving solo home users on a tight budget who don't need commercial-grade filtration or automation.

Pros
- + Among the lowest new and used prices in the float tank market — the Tent costs a fraction of a commercial pod.
- + Compact footprint suits home installation in spare rooms or basements.
- + Simple, user-serviceable construction with parts available directly from Zen.
- + Made in the USA.
Cons
- − Tent has limited insulation — heat loss is significant in colder rooms, which raises operating cost.
- − Filtration on the Tent is essentially manual; this is not a commercial-use product.
- − Tent fabric can develop salt staining and pin-leaks over time and is not as long-lived as fiberglass.
- − Resale market is shallow — units sell, but slowly and at significant discounts.
Common Used-Unit Issues
Items to specifically check when evaluating a used Zen Float Co.. For a general framework, see our used float tank inspection checklist.
- • Tent: fabric salt staining and slow seam leaks after 3+ years of regular use.
- • Tent: heater inefficiency in cold rooms; some owners insulate the surrounding space rather than the tank.
- • Tank: door gasket wear; standard maintenance item.
- • Both: UV bulb (when fitted) needs annual replacement to stay effective.
Typical Used-Market Pricing
Used Zen Float Tents typically sell for $800–$1,500 against a $1,800–$2,500 new price. Used Zen Float Tanks (the rigid version) command $2,000–$4,500 versus $4,500–$7,000 new. Both depreciate steeply in the first year and then plateau.
Pricing context for the broader used market is in our buyer's guide.
Buying Tips
- → For the Tent, inspect the fabric corners and seams under bright light for salt creep and pinhole leaks.
- → Check the heater pad (if waterbed-style) for salt damage on the underside of the bladder.
- → Confirm all original components are included — replacing missing pumps and filters individually adds up quickly relative to the tank price.
